I heard an absolutely awful person (via media not someone I know) proudly complaining that if a good friend or lover suffered a physical insult, such as tripping over a broken sidewalk and landing on their face, that she thereafter could not look at that person again without disdain.
That sounded unbelievable until I remembered this story: A close friend spent a few days working with a famous artist, in a sort of internship. During that time he told her that his fiance and he had broken up for a reason similar to that intimated above. The two had been rock climbing, with ropes and all, when she lost her grip and fell past him, flailing and screaming, and splattered on the rocks below. She lived but was badly injured. And, he could no longer look at her without disdain, and the marriage was off.
Uffda. Are people really like this?
Well, in a certain sense, we might hope so, for a particular reason. Yesterday we learned that Trump, while in court, nodded off. The story reported by the mainstream media is that he was bored. That is a way of blaming the process and not the nodder. Had that been Biden nodding off, the mainstream media would have blamed Biden for being old. But since it was Trump, they blame someone or something else, because Trump has trained everyone to redirect blame for each and every one of his numerous, massive failings.
So, at this point, Trump could ignore safety procedures and fall off a cliff or not be paying attention and trip on a sidewalk and the mainstream media would blame gravity. But at some point, people see past the thick veil of forgiving headlines and notice that Trump can’t manage himself in a meeting, even if it is the most important meeting he has ever been in: court proceedings that will determine his status as a criminal, and possibly, his liberty.
If he nodded off on day one, he will nod off on day two and beyond. He is not nodding off because the proceedings are boring, but because he is old and tired and unable to focus, and the focus part probably goes back decades.
More importantly, this kind of thing is going to get worse as this proceeding continues. If he is nodding off now, he is going to go full on head-banger soon, maybe today, maybe tomorrow.
If you head bang on the desk frequently enough, you are eventually going to damage your face or draw blood. This will be major international news. The Trump team may preempt a serious head banging by using narcotics, such as speed. Then, Trump will be sufficiently hyped up that he embarasses himself in other ways. If it is really true that he never does drugs or drinks, and they put him on something, his physiology and psychology may well overreact. Pretty soon you’ve got an out of control jittery orange defendant alternating between yelling at the judge or jury and falling, passed out, out of his chair.
The awful person who disdains her close friends if they slip on a sidewalk is a progressive political activist. But I wonder if among the MAGA there is a higher proportion of judgemental dits whose love for their cult leader would be broken when they finally see him as the clown that he is. He being an accused felon won’t dampen their love. He being a convicted felon won’t dampen their love. He being a stealer of secret documents, a payer-offer of porn stars, an inciter of insurrections will not dampen their love for him.
But if he falls out of the chair, passed out, and gets a black eye when he hits the leg of the table and pisses himself right there in the courtroom? Maybe that’s when it ends. Yes, that is the end of Donald Trump, right there.
Stay Tuned.
